Meet Gina Meyer, LMSW: Supporting Women Through Menopause, Grief, and Life Transitions in Grand Rapids
Welcoming Gina Meyer of Holding Space Therapy to GR Therapy Collective
At GR Therapy Collective, we're excited to introduce Gina Meyer, LMSW, founder of Holding Space Therapy PLLC, who joined our community of independent mental health and wellness professionals.
Gina specializes in supporting adult women navigating perimenopause, menopause, anxiety, burnout, grief, and significant life transitions. Her approach is warm, compassionate, and collaborative, creating space for women to feel heard, understood, and supported as they navigate life's changing seasons.
Why Women's Mental Health and Midlife Transitions Matter
For Gina, this work is deeply personal.
Having experienced many of the challenges that can accompany midlife herself, including changes in energy, concentration, sleep, mood, and identity, she understands how unsettling it can feel when life suddenly becomes more difficult to manage.
Midlife often brings more than physical changes. Children may leave home, careers may shift, relationships may evolve, and women may begin questioning who they are outside the roles they've held for years.
These experiences inspired Gina to help other women navigate similar transitions with greater understanding, support, and compassion.
Understanding the Emotional Side of Perimenopause and Menopause
Perimenopause and menopause can affect much more than physical health.
Some women experience increased anxiety, irritability, disrupted sleep, brain fog, difficulty concentrating, and changes in their emotional well-being.
For someone who has always felt capable and confident, these changes can be especially unsettling.
Women may find themselves wondering:
Why don't I feel like myself anymore?
Why am I suddenly struggling with things that used to feel manageable?
Is this anxiety, burnout, hormonal change, or something else?
What do I want this next chapter of my life to look like?
These experiences may also overlap with caregiving responsibilities, career pressures, grief, relationship changes, and shifting family roles.
Gina believes women deserve a space where these concerns are taken seriously rather than minimized.
Therapy can help women explore their experiences, understand their emotional needs, and develop strategies for navigating change.
Therapy for Burnout, Grief, and Rediscovering Yourself
Gina's work extends beyond menopause to support women experiencing grief, chronic overwhelm, caregiving stress, identity changes, and major life transitions.
She also brings 10 years of experience as a hospice social worker, supporting patients and families through grief, loss, and some of life's most difficult transitions. This experience has shaped her compassionate understanding of how people navigate uncertainty, changing roles, and the emotional impact of loss.
Whether someone is grieving a loved one, adjusting to an empty nest, caring for aging parents, or questioning their sense of purpose, Gina recognizes that these transitions can bring complicated emotions.
Her approach begins by helping clients slow down and understand what they're experiencing.
For women who have spent years caring for others or functioning in survival mode, identifying their own needs can feel unfamiliar.
Therapy offers an opportunity to process difficult emotions, explore changing priorities, build coping strategies, and reconnect with what matters most.
As Gina explains, her goal isn't to tell women who they should become. It's to help them better understand themselves and decide how they want to move forward.
What Is It Like to Work With Gina?
Gina describes her therapeutic style as warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental.
During an initial session, she focuses on getting to know the whole person rather than simply collecting symptoms or checking boxes.
She draws from evidence-based therapeutic approaches while recognizing that each woman's experiences, goals, and needs are unique.
Her goal is for clients to feel seen, supported, and understood while developing practical tools and greater insight that can carry into everyday life.
You Don't Have to Be in Crisis to Seek Therapy
One message Gina hopes more women hear is that they don't have to wait until life feels unbearable to ask for support.
Sometimes the reason to begin therapy is simply that something feels different, overwhelming, or unsustainable.
Whether you're experiencing anxiety during menopause, grieving a loss, feeling burned out from caregiving, or questioning what comes next, your experiences deserve attention and care.
